Healthier children
National has made great progress improving health for children. Immunisation is now at a record level of 93 per cent for 2-year-olds, we have free round-the-clock doctors’ visits for under-sixes, and we have given free health checks to almost 140,000 children before they start school.
On Friday, Rongomai School in Otara becomes the first of 18 schools in South Auckland to start the rheumatic fever prevention programme. This programme is part of National’s $24 million commitment to combat rheumatic fever.
Clinics will check throats, provide antibiotics, and provide access to other health services for some of New Zealand’s most vulnerable children.
